Job Description:Director of Operations

Current Position Title: Director of Operations

Job Status: Salaried, Exempt

Supervisor: Executive Director

Objective of Position: The Director of Operations, is responsible for human resources and related functions, managing GTA seasonal housing needs and agreements, supporting the Director of Retail in staffing systems, analysis of sales trends and inventory records; warehouse operations; the safety training and incident debrief, administrative duties as related to budget preparation and financial planning and project management. In carrying out these duties, the Director of Operations will take appropriate measures to support and enhance the mission of GTA, giving priority consideration to the needs of the visiting public, governing statutory acts and GTA contracts and guidelines.

Examples of Major Duties:

Operations and Supervision 40%:

  • Support and maintain all administrative procedures and systems for GTA.
  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding and training of all seasonal associates.
  • Work with agency partners to secure housing. Assign and communicate housing designations to seasonal associates. Manage any housing issues that occur with agency partners.
  • Direct GTA’s safety program; represent GTA at GTNP safety committee meetings; implement appropriate training and educational activities; ensure compliance with safety regulations; maintain safety records and prepare reports as necessary; oversee employee safety training program.
  • Oversee all warehouse operations including vehicle safety and training, warehouse safety staffing and training.
  • Support and participate in all GTA events including Old Bill’s Fun Run and Plein

Administration 40%:

  • Administer human resource systems for permanent full time, seasonal and volunteer personnel. This includes: recruitment, retention, training and evaluation of GTA personnel.
  • Develop and maintain employee handbooks and training materials. Work with management employees to conduct training programs for seasonal and volunteer personnel.
  • Develop and implement best practices, policies and administrative procedures; conduct research; manage special projects; analyze effectiveness of written and online communications in relation to GTA objectives and mission
  • Support other duties as assigned including administrative projects as requested, including those of the Ed, Board of Directors and general need of GTA. ‚Äč

Reporting 10%:

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of budget documents, financial statements and reports; make projections and study trends that impact GTA business. Review financial reports; maintain strict financial controls; assist with audit and preparation of annual report; monitor payables to preserve a strong cash position; resolve accounting issues involving remits and deposits; implementation of records retention policy.

Institutional Leadership 10%:

  • As a member of the GTA leadership team, collaborate on issues and projects that support the GTA mission and partners.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supervising and leading
  • Experience in strategic organizational planning
  • Demonstrated experience in human resources
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing;
  • Standard office and administrative procedures;
  • Microsoft Word and Excel programs

Licenses and Certificates

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license during the course of employment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule depending on GTA needs, including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to work in a typical warehouse setting and use standard warehouse equipment.
  • In addition, must be physically fit enough to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.

Seasonal Employment and Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for considering GTA for employment and volunteer service. The year-round staff is small, so GTA relies heavily on seasonal employees and volunteers. GTA works diligently to support its employees and volunteers by providing meaningful work, a positive environment and opportunities for long-term growth.

Seasonal Employment

Seasonal employees are necessary to meet staffing needs during the summer and winter seasons. Returning staff members have priority to fill positions for the next season. Recruitment for the summer season begins in the December; winter employees are recruited in September. GTA offers a competitive wage, full and part time schedules and a team oriented environment. Housing may also be provided.

Seasonal positions include:

Seasonal Lead Sales Associate

This position reports to the Store Supervisor and is responsible for performing sales and administrative duties in the absence of the Store Supervisor. Lead Sales Associates may be assigned work specific to the visitor center location. Examples include but are not limited to: general oversight of Miller House, Flagg Ranch, Menor’s Ferry and BTNF properties; sale of State/Federal permits; monitoring flight schedules; pulling and delivering product; and coordinating with GTNP interpretive staff to provide visitor information.

Seasonal Sales Associate

To provide complete sales and informational services and excellent customer service in the visitor center location assigned. Position requires some night and weekend work.

Seasonal Lead Warehouse Employee

Receive, stock and distribute inventory in support of GTA retail operation and provide direction to warehouse employees. Warehouse employees are required to perform all duties. This includes: inventory management, making deliveries, operating the lift and removing trash/recyclables.

Menor’s Ferry General Store Volunteer Docent

The docent position manages the sales and operations of Menor’s Ferry General Store and provide general interpretation of the Menor’s Ferry Historic District. A NPS RV site is provided rent free by GTA. Couples encouraged to apply.

Events and Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

Grand Teton Association facilitates several educational and scientific events in support of agency partners. Duties and responsibilities vary based on the specific needs of the event but offer a smaller commitment.
